Mysuru, Dec 24: A man in Gangavadi village, Yelandur taluk, experienced a four-hour ordeal after curiosity led him into a cage set up to capture a leopard.

The incident occurred on farmland owned by local farmer Ramayya, after a leopard had recently attacked the area and killed three livestock. “Following the villagers’ request, the forest department had installed two traps in the village to catch the animal,” a local official said.

On Monday morning at around 10:30 am, a man named Kitti approached one of the cages to inspect it. Curious to see how it worked, he stepped inside, only for the gate to automatically shut behind him, trapping him.

Kitti did not have a mobile phone, so he was unable to call anyone for help. Moreover, the cage was located some distance from the village, and local villagers and herders were reportedly hesitant to approach due to fear of the leopard, leaving him stranded inside.

Kitti remained trapped for nearly four hours. Around 2:30 pm, he finally spotted some herders in the distance and began shouting loudly. “Initially, the villagers were startled, but when they came closer, they were shocked to discover a man inside the trap,” said a witness. He was then freed safely after the landowner opened the cage.

Upon emerging, Kitti breathed a huge sigh of relief. The unusual incident has sparked widespread discussion in the district, with locals joking that “even curiosity has its limits.”
