Karnataka simplifies land conversion; renewable energy projects exempted

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Dec 26: The Karnataka government has issued the final notification amending the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, 1964, making land conversion simpler and more transparent, chief minister Siddaramaiah announced .

Sharing the update on social media platform X, the chief minister said the move aligns with India’s growing focus on renewable energy. “Exemptions have been provided for renewable energy projects. If the Energy Department has granted approval, land conversion will no longer be required for setting up renewable energy project units,” he stated.

The amendments also aim to streamline procedures for revenue courts. Earlier, there were no clear rules on how these courts should function, resulting in sub-divisional officers’ courts sometimes issuing orders beyond their jurisdiction. With the new provisions, orders will be issued through digital systems, including the RCCMS, giving legal force to reform measures.

“No one can administer justice beyond the law,” the chief minister emphasised. “Several sections and rules have been amended to ensure proper implementation of the law.”

He added that revenue court proceedings can now be conducted online, allowing petitioners and respondents to participate without repeatedly visiting government offices.

In a further step, land security mapping has been given statutory backing, with provisions integrated into the rules. The chief minister said these measures would enhance efficiency, transparency, and legal certainty in land administration across the state.
