Mangaluru, Dec 26: The Management Forum Department of BCom Srinivas Institute of Management and Commerce organized "The Boardroom," a specialized induction and skill development session for the first-year B Com honours section A students on December 22. The primary objective was to introduce students to practical decision-making scenarios and Introducing critical thinking through low-pressure, high-interaction management simulations.
The students were presented with a relatable real-time crisis scenario: A payment server crash at the five star canteen during peak lunch hours. Students were divided into small buzz groups/pairs. They were given a strict time limit (3 minutes) to act as "Managers" and derive a single, immediate solution to manage the crowd and financial risk. The session utilized a rapid-fire solution sharing round where students presented their strategies (trust-based vs strict policy).

Key learnings:
-Students learned the concept of "Trade-offs" in management—balancing financial security (cash flow) with customer satisfaction (student hunger).
-The rapid-fire round encouraged students to articulate their thoughts clearly and confidently under time constraints.
-First-year students engaged in active discussion with peers, breaking the ice and building class rapport.
The event was successfully conducted with active participation from 25 students. The informal yet professional setup helped alleviate the hesitation of first-year students, successfully transitioning them into the forum's activities for the academic year.
The event was organized through the guidance of Dr Venkatesh S Amin, dean of IMC, Prof Sharmila S Shetty, HoD of B Com department, Prof Hansel Rego, Management Forum in charge and through the help of B Com fraternity.
