Mumbai, Feb 17: Actress Mrunal Thakur has opened up about her journey in Bollywood, admitting that her early years as an outsider were far from easy. Nearly 15 years after beginning her acting career, the actress says she learned to overcome hesitation and actively pursue roles instead of waiting for opportunities.
Her upcoming film, Do Deewane Seher Mein, directed by Ravi Udyawar and backed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, came about because she took the initiative to reach out to the filmmaker herself.

Recalling the moment, Mrunal said that after watching Udyawar’s critically acclaimed film Mom, she directly expressed her desire to work with him. “I told Ravi sir that I want to work with him. I even made a pitch and asked when we were doing our next film together. I’ve learned to be vocal about these things, and I believe I’m here because I had the courage,” she shared in an interview.
The actress revealed that creating opportunities has been a consistent part of her journey. She recalled that Aditya Dhar was the first director she ever approached for work. Dhar’s latest film, Dhurandhar, recently impressed her, prompting her to reflect on her early struggles.
“Opportunities didn’t come easily to me. I had to create them, chase them and make sure directors noticed me. I would say, ‘Sir, main hoon — kisi na kisi din cast kar lena please.’ Back then, I didn’t even know how to ask for work properly,” she said.
Mrunal believes that being proactive has helped shape her career. She often reaches out to filmmakers she admires, even without personal connections, expressing her eagerness to collaborate. According to her, when directors see an actor genuinely hungry for a role, it influences how they view the project, knowing the performer will give their best.
