Goa strengthens tree conservation laws: Stricter norms for felling and removal introduced

Daijiworld Media Network - Panaji

Panaji, Jan 2: In a major move to protect the state’s greenery, the Goa government has amended the Goa Preservation of Trees Act, 1984, introducing tougher regulations for tree felling and removal.

According to the new amendment, the Tree Officer must now verify land ownership and secure a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from all co-owners before granting permission to cut, fell, remove, or dispose of any tree under Section 9 of the Act.

The step comes as part of the government’s efforts to prevent unauthorized tree cutting, strengthen environmental conservation, and promote sustainable development across the state.

This amendment ensures stricter scrutiny and accountability, reinforcing Goa’s commitment to safeguarding its natural resources for future generations.
