Udupi, Jan 28: A 50-year-old man died in a suspected case of electrocution while cleaning a premises using an electric pressure pump at Chandrakanta near Moodu Bettu, under the limits of Malpe police station.

The deceased has been identified as Shivashankar (50), a resident of Madvanagar near Kodavoor. According to sources, Shivashankar had gone to a relative’s house for cleaning work. While washing the ground using an electric pressure pump, he reportedly collapsed after coming into contact with electric current.

Noticing the incident, Vishu Shetty of Ambalpady rushed to the spot and shifted the victim to the district hospital in an ambulance. However, doctors who examined him declared that he had already died.

It is suspected that electric current may have leaked from the pressure pump and, as the victim was standing in water, he may have suffered a severe electric shock leading to his death. Shivashankar was unmarried and was engaged in agriculture.

Vishu Shetty has lodged a complaint with the Malpe police, who have registered a case and are investigating the incident to ascertain the exact cause of death.
