Tehran, Feb 5: Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has disclosed a new underground missile base, signalling heightened military preparedness amid ongoing tensions with the United States, Iranian media reported.
The facility was unveiled during a visit on Wednesday by Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Abdolrahim Mousavi and Seyed Majid Mousavi, commander of the IRGC Aerospace Force, according to the semi-official Fars news agency, as cited by Xinhua.
During the visit, the operational readiness and capabilities of the IRGC’s missile units were reviewed, and senior military leaders were briefed on the progress, preparedness, and strategic role of the unit.
Speaking at the base, Abdolrahim Mousavi said Iran has significantly enhanced its deterrence capability through comprehensive upgrades to its ballistic missile systems across all technical aspects.
He asserted that Iran is prepared to respond to any hostile action, adding that the country has revised its military doctrine following the 12-day conflict with Israel in June last year. According to Mousavi, Iran has shifted from a primarily defensive posture to a more offensive strategy, emphasising rapid, large-scale operations combined with asymmetric warfare and decisive military tactics.
The development comes against the backdrop of sustained tensions between Tehran and Washington, particularly amid reports of an expanded US military presence near Iran. US officials have warned Iran to engage diplomatically or face potential military consequences.
Earlier on Sunday, Mousavi issued a stark warning, saying any miscalculation by the United States could trigger a wider regional conflict.
According to the official IRNA news agency, he said that even a minor error would give Iran the latitude to respond forcefully.
“The smallest mistake will allow Iran to act freely,” Mousavi was quoted as saying, warning that such a scenario would leave no American forces in the region safe and could engulf the United States and its allies in a broader regional conflagration.
