Mandrem’s water woes to ease as Tuem treatment plant nears completion: CM Sawant

Daijiworld Media Network - Mapusa

Mapusa, Feb 5: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said the persistent water shortage in Mandrem constituency is set to be resolved, with the 30 million litres per day (MLD) water treatment plant at Tuem expected to become fully operational by March.

Speaking after a high-level inspection of the Rs 64 crore project along with Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar, Sawant said work on the facility is being accelerated to ensure it is ready ahead of the peak summer months.

The Tuem water treatment plant is a key component of the government’s efforts to address a 50 MLD water deficit in North Goa. Once commissioned, the plant will draw raw water from the Tillari reservoir and significantly improve supply to water-starved areas.

According to the chief minister, Mandrem will initially receive a guaranteed 12-hour daily water supply — a major improvement for residents who currently get tap water for barely 30 minutes on alternate days.

Sawant said the project will bring long-term relief to the constituency and strengthen the overall water infrastructure in North Goa, especially during the high-demand summer season.
