Panaji, Feb 20: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has initiated an inquiry following a complaint of alleged malpractice during the ongoing Class XII board examinations. The action comes after a student reported that a deputy conductor and an exam hall supervisor improperly assisted candidates during the mathematics paper.
Board chairman Bhagirath Shetye confirmed that both officials have been relieved of examination duties until the investigation is completed.

He explained that a standing committee is constituted during every board examination cycle to examine allegations of malpractice or dereliction of duty by staff. The present complaint has been referred to this panel for a detailed probe. “We take such matters very seriously and have acted immediately by removing the two individuals from exam responsibilities pending inquiry,” Shetye stated.
The incident reportedly took place at a school in Mapusa while the Class XII mathematics examination was underway. According to the complainant, the deputy conductor — who is a mathematics teacher — entered the examination hall and began guiding students on certain answers. The student further alleged that the teacher offered similar assistance to her, prompting her to raise concerns over compromised fairness.
Shetye added that examination centres are instructed to install CCTV cameras wherever feasible, and the inquiry committee will review all available evidence before reaching a conclusion. He emphasised that beyond procedural safeguards, maintaining the integrity of the examination process is a moral obligation for educators entrusted with supervisory roles.
