Kaup, Apr 25: In view of the Punar Pratishtha Brahma Kalashotsava and religious and cultural programmes at the Padubidri Sri Mahalingeshwara Mahaganapathi Temple, Udupi deputy commissioner Swaroopa T K have announced traffic restrictions and diversions on National Highway-66 on Sunday, April 26.

According to a directive issued, the temple renovation celebrations are being held from April 23 to May 4. As part of the festivities, a large Horekanike procession is scheduled on April 26 at 3pm.

The procession will commence near Gundyadi Katte at Kalsanka in Thenka Yermal village and proceed up to Uchila along the left side of the Udupi–Mangaluru stretch of NH-66. It will then move via the Naralthaya diversion in the opposite direction (Mangaluru–Udupi Lane) towards Padubidri Beedu, finally reaching the temple through the market area.

Authorities expect participation of around 500 to 1,000 vehicles, both heavy and light, in the procession. As the procession will move against the normal flow of traffic on a busy highway and since its weekend, significant traffic congestion is anticipated.

To manage traffic and prevent disruptions, the following arrangements have been put in place from 3 pm to 7 pm on April 26.

All vehicles traveling on the Udupi–Mangaluru and Mangaluru–Udupi routes will be diverted and allowed to move in both directions on the Udupi–Mangaluru carriageway between Beedu Diversion and Kalsanka Naralthaya Diversion.

Vehicular movement on the Mangaluru–Udupi carriageway will be completely prohibited between Beedu diversion and Kalsanka Naralthaya diversion during this period.

Authorities have urged the public to cooperate and plan their travel accordingly to avoid inconvenience.
