Mangalore: 'Lankesh 77' in City on March 11

Mangalore, Mar 10: Gowri Lankesh, chief editor of Kannada publication, ‘Gowri Lankesh Patrike’, informed that a programme, ‘Lankesh 77’, will be held at St Aloysius PU College Hall in association with various progressive organizations of the state on Sunday March 11. March 11 this year marks the 77th birth anniversary of celebrated journalist, writer, and cine director, the late P Lankesh.

She was addressing a press conference in the city on Saturday March 9.

Gowri revealed that this programme, which used to be organized annually at Bangalore so far, has been extended outside the state capital for the first time. “We have chosen Mangalore for this programme. The birth anniversary of my father will be celebrated meaningfully by holding different sessions and releasing of books,” she said.

The programme will be inaugurated by well-known writer, Devanur Mahadeva, at 10.30 am, at a function to be chaired by Gowri. Suresh Bhat Bakrabail will release the Deepavali Rajyotsava edition, ‘Panchali’, published by Lankesh in 1974. Three other works will also be released on the occasion. Editor of ‘Lankesh Patrike’, Parvateesh, and state general secretary of Karnataka Komu Sauharda Vedike, K L Ashok, will be present.

At the first session of the day, to be presided over by Sara Abubakar, G Rajashekhar will move the topic of ‘problems being faced by the coast’, followed by main lectures on the subject by Vittal Hegde and Bhoomi Gowda. Dr H S Anupama, Hayavadana Upadhyaya, P V Mohan, and Vasudeva Belle, will comment on the subject by way of response.

The second session on ‘anxieties of Karnataka’ will be chaired by Rajaram Tolpady. K Phaniraj will present the issue, followed by addresses by Dr H Vasu and B M Basheer. Aravind Chokkady, Vasant Bannadi, and Vivekananda Tandela will be giving their responses.

The valedictory function to be organized at 4.30 pm will be presided over by A K Subbaiah. Paravateesh will present his views on ‘Karnataka, equanimous and harmonious’, followed by main addresses by Fr Martis and Fakir Mohammed Katpady. A play titled ‘Mistake’, by Sadant Hassan Manto, directed by Dr Sripad Bhat, will be presented by Udupi Rathabeedi Geleyaru at 6.30 pm, she narrated.

Parvateesh, Suresh Bhat Bakrabail, Doddapalya Narasimha Murty, Arun Bangalore, Ismat Fajeer, and Kabir Ullal were present at the press conference.
