Curchorem, May 2: A butterfly garden developed under a biodiversity project outside the Curchorem Municipal Council building has fallen into severe disrepair, drawing sharp criticism from locals and activists who have alleged gross negligence by authorities.
Once inaugurated with much fanfare under the Bio-City initiative, the garden now lies neglected, with dried plants, poor upkeep, and no visible signs of maintenance. Social workers have questioned the intent behind launching such projects without ensuring their long-term sustainability.

Residents expressed disappointment over the deteriorating condition of the site, stating that what was envisioned as a green attraction has now turned into an abandoned space.
In what many see as a face-saving attempt, the municipality is reportedly planning to hand over the project to the Forest Department, with discussions said to be underway with the concerned minister.
However, locals remain unconvinced, terming the move delayed and inadequate, and demanding immediate restoration and accountability from authorities.
