Cuncolim, May 4: Police in South Goa have initiated an inquiry following the death of an 18-year-old youth who allegedly consumed kerosene mixed with pesticide by mistake at his home.

According to officials, the Goa Police received information on May 2, 2026, from Goa Medical College and Hospital that the patient, identified as Rohit Kumbar alias Rohit Naik (18), a resident of Assolna, had died during treatment.

Investigations revealed that the youth had been admitted to the hospital on April 19 after allegedly ingesting a toxic mixture of kerosene and pesticide at his residence in Kumborda, Sarzora. Preliminary findings suggest that the chemical substance had been stored in the kitchen and was consumed accidentally.

Police carried out a scene-of-death panchanama and inquest proceedings before sending the body for post-mortem examination. The autopsy report indicated that the cause of death was multi-organ failure linked to pesticide ingestion.

After completion of medico-legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family for final rites.

Further investigation into the incident is being conducted by PSI Sahil Pagui of Cuncolim Police Station to establish the exact circumstances leading to the tragedy.
