Bicholim, May 17: Pramod Sawant announced that nearly 50,000 women and girls across Goa have benefited from free medical screenings conducted under the state government’s “Check by Doctor” and “Health with Ayurveda” programmes.
The Chief Minister said the initiatives have received a strong public response and are aimed not only at providing treatment but also at promoting healthier and more natural lifestyles among citizens.
Sawant observed that many women often prioritise household responsibilities over their own well-being, which can lead to delayed detection of serious illnesses. He stressed the importance of identifying health problems at an early stage before they develop into severe medical conditions.

According to the Chief Minister, a large number of people tend to assume they are suffering from illnesses without consulting doctors, creating unnecessary anxiety. He noted that regular health screenings and timely medical advice can significantly help in preventing diseases and improving overall health outcomes.
Sawant also raised concern over the increasing number of cases related to diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney ailments, and dialysis dependency in the state. To tackle the growing burden of lifestyle diseases, the government is focusing on preventive healthcare through primary-level screenings and awareness campaigns, he said.
Appealing to the public, the Chief Minister urged citizens to make full use of the free health camps being organised across Goa until June 5. He especially encouraged more women to participate in the screenings and prioritise their health.
He further clarified that the initiative also includes free medicines and treatment assistance of up to Rs 20,000 for eligible beneficiaries.
