Kaup, Jun 1: A cow carcass was found on the bank of a river at Kallattu village under the jurisdiction of the Shirva police station in Udupi district, triggering outrage among local right-wing activists.
The remains were discovered in a riverbank area that is considered sacred by devotees and is popularly known as the Papanashini river. The river is used for holy bathing rituals associated with several temples in the region, including the Shirva Vishnumurthy Temple.

Local residents and Hindu activists alleged that unidentified miscreants had taken advantage of the isolated nature of the area to dump the carcass. The incident has sparked concern and anger among members of Hindu organizations.
Police personnel from the Shirva police station visited the spot and conducted a mahazar (spot inspection) in the presence of officials from the animal husbandry department.
Leaders and activists of Hindu organizations, including the Hindu Jagarana Vedike and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), gathered at the site and urged the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and identify those responsible for the act.
The activists warned that they would launch a strong protest if the culprits are not traced and appropriate action is not taken.
The incident occurred within the limits of the Shirva police station in Kapu taluk of Udupi district.
