Bengaluru, Jun 11: A significant development took place in the Karnataka high court on Wednesday, June 10, in connection with the case filed against the son of a BJP leader on allegations of cheating a woman after a relationship.

Hearing a petition filed by Krishna J Rao of Puttur seeking the quashing of the case, the high court bench suggested that the dispute be resolved through mediation.

The order was passed by the single-judge bench of Justice M Nagaprasanna.

During the hearing, senior advocate P P Hegde, appearing for the petitioner, submitted before the court that the matter could be settled through mutual mediation. Taking note of the submission, the court directed the complainant, the accused, and all persons connected with the case to compulsorily appear before the Mediation Centre on June 19.

As per an earlier direction of the high court, accused Krishna J Rao had deposited Rs 75,000 in court towards the first month's payment. The court directed that the deposited amount be released to the complainant immediately.

The high court also instructed the accused to pay a further Rs 75,000 towards the second month's payment within the next four days.

The matter has been adjourned to June 30 for further hearing. The future course of legal proceedings will be decided based on the report submitted by the Mediation Centre regarding the outcome of the settlement talks.
