Margao, Jun 11: Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Thursday announced the expansion of state-run home healthcare services across the state, aimed at providing doorstep medical care to patients suffering from serious illnesses such as cancer and stroke.
Speaking to reporters in Margao during a programme marking 12 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's tenure in office, Rane said the health department has already launched a home care initiative that currently serves around 800 patients.
“The service includes nurses, physiotherapists, speech therapists and other healthcare professionals. On the day Prime Minister Narendra Modi completes 12 years of service, we are committing to providing home care at the doorstep for people who require it the most, especially those suffering from cancer, stroke and other serious conditions,” he said.

Rane said the dedicated home healthcare team would be expanded over the next three months to extend the facility to a larger number of beneficiaries across Goa.
The minister also announced plans to strengthen healthcare infrastructure at the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH) in Margao.
He said a preliminary review of the hospital had been completed and efforts were underway to enhance specialist medical services.
“Two posts for senior cardiologists have been advertised, and the doctors will be posted at the Margao facility. An MRI facility will also be inaugurated soon,” Rane said.
He added that orthopaedic, neurology and cardiology services at the district hospital would be further strengthened in the coming months.
Reiterating the government's commitment to accessible healthcare, Rane said, “Healthcare for all is our commitment on the occasion of Prime Minister Modi completing 12 years in office.”
Highlighting another initiative, he said nearly 1,000 patients visit the Day Care Centre at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) every month.
“The day care model has been successful and will now be expanded across the state,” he said.
Rane further stated that the cathlab facility at the South Goa District Hospital is expected to become operational within six months, while additional super-speciality services will be introduced in phases.
He said the expansion of healthcare services reflects the government's ongoing efforts to improve access to quality medical care and strengthen public health infrastructure across Goa.
