Kuwait, Jun 12: Indian diplomatic missions across several countries organised curtain-raiser events on Friday to build momentum for the upcoming International Day of Yoga, highlighting this year's theme, 'Yoga for Healthy Ageing'.
In Kuwait, the Embassy of India conducted a special yoga session at the Gulf SPIC Labour Camp, marking the first time such an event has been organised at the facility. The venue holds particular significance as Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the camp during his trip to Kuwait in December 2024.

A large gathering of Indian workers participated in the programme, practising the Common Yoga Protocol and learning about yoga's benefits for physical health, mental wellness and overall quality of life. Indian Ambassador Paramita Tripathi also distributed sports equipment and encouraged participants to embrace fitness and healthy lifestyles in line with the Fit India and Khelo India initiatives.
In Algeria, yoga enthusiasts joined embassy officials for a wellness session led by local instructor Wasila Hamouni. Addressing participants, Ambassador Swati Vijay Kulkarni invited people to take part in International Day of Yoga celebrations on June 21 and an upcoming online yoga programme aimed at setting a Guinness World Record.
Meanwhile, in Kyrgyzstan, the Indian Embassy organised a master yoga session for personnel of the country's State Border Service. More than 100 participants attended the event, which was also joined by Defence Attache Colonel Pankaj Sharma.
In Niger, a pre-Yoga Day event was held at Abdou Moumouni University in Niamey, where students and faculty members took part in yoga activities designed to promote health, mindfulness and emotional well-being.
Similarly, in Fiji, the High Commission of India and the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre conducted a yoga session at Rambisessar Memorial Primary School in Suva. The programme focused on introducing young students to the physical and mental benefits of yoga.
The events are part of a global outreach campaign by Indian missions ahead of the 11th International Day of Yoga celebrations on June 21, which are expected to witness participation from millions of people across countries worldwide.
