Mangaluru, Jun 13: Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru successfully conducted orientation programmes for parents and students of grades VIII to X to familiarise them with the academic framework, CBSE initiatives, assessment reforms, and expectations for the new academic year.
The orientation programme for grades VIII and IX commenced with an invocation, seeking god’s blessings and a captivating welcome dance that brought energy and joy to the occasion. Zanet welcomed the gathering and introduced the keynote speaker, Jestalaxmi Boloor, counselling psychologist and life skills trainer.
In her address on 'Growing Engagement with Digital Platforms: Risks and Parental Responsibility', Jestalaxmi highlighted the impact of digital platforms on children and emphasised the importance of parental guidance, responsible technology use, healthy screen habits, and open communication within families.













































Principal Sr Melissa addressed the gathering on the school’s vision, discipline, academic expectations, holistic development, and key CBSE initiatives, including the three-language policy, advanced mathematics and science in grade IX and the like. She also stressed the importance of effective study habits, parental support, responsible use of social media, and maintaining accurate student records.
Vidya explained the revised CBSE evaluation criteria, updated passing requirements, and the increased focus on competency-based learning and assessment. Leena briefed parents on the salient features of NEP 2020, NCF 2023, vocational education, subject flexibility, and skill-based learning like Kaushal Bodh and Kaushal Vikas.
Sunitha Singh highlighted the integration of Computational Thinking and Artificial Intelligence across grades to equip learners with essential 21st-century skills.
Bringing the programme to a close, Vani proposed the vote of thanks, acknowledging the support of all those who contributed to the success of the session, and the proceedings were efficiently compered by Rishel, ensuring a well-coordinated event.
The grade X orientation programme on June 13 began with an invocation followed by a graceful welcome dance that set a positive and vibrant tone for the day. Pramila welcomed the gathering and introduced the keynote speaker Sachitha Nandagopal, educator, social activist, and mental wellness advocate.
The keynote address delivered by her was highly engaging and interactive, actively involving both parents and students, and emphasising the importance of strengthening emotional bonding within families. She spoke on effective communication, mutual trust, emotional well-being, and the growing concern of mobile phone addiction among adolescents. Through practical examples and meaningful interactions, she encouraged parents to establish healthy digital boundaries and nurture supportive relationships.
Principal Sr Melissa motivated the students of grade X to approach the academic year with dedication, discipline and perseverance, while assuring parents of the school's continued support. The subject orientation session was conducted by Tr Priyanka, who provided a detailed overview of the grade X curriculum, assessment pattern, academic expectations, and strategies for Board Examination preparation.
The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks proposed by Herold Mendonca and the event was efficiently compered by Helen Menezes, ensuring the seamless conduct of the programme from beginning to end.
The parent-teacher executive committee (PTEC) elections were conducted by administrator Sr Carissima, encouraging active parental participation and strengthening school-parent collaboration. Interactive sessions on both the days enabled parents to seek clarifications and engage in meaningful dialogue with the school management and teachers.
The orientation programmes proved informative, enriching, and inspiring, equipping parents and students with valuable insights and confidence for a successful academic year ahead.
