Panaji, Jun 20: Goa welcomed 46,39,165 tourists during the first five months of 2026, registering a 0.39 per cent increase compared to the same period last year, according to data released by the state Tourism Department on Friday.

Of the total tourist arrivals, domestic visitors accounted for 44,37,018, while foreign tourist arrivals stood at 2,02,147.

The coastal state recorded 9,69,090 tourist arrivals in May alone, marking a 4.53 per cent growth compared to May 2025, the department said.

Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said the rise in visitor numbers was driven by improved connectivity, diverse tourism offerings and growing confidence among travellers.

“While our beaches remain iconic, travellers are increasingly exploring Goa’s culture, heritage, spirituality, wellness offerings, hinterland experiences, festivals and culinary traditions,” he said.

Khaunte said the expansion of tourism beyond beaches was helping Goa build a stronger and more resilient tourism economy while ensuring that benefits reach communities across the state.

The Tourism Department said domestic tourism continues to be the main contributor to overall arrivals, while international tourism is being strengthened through improved air connectivity, charter operations and cruise tourism.

The department highlighted that Goa’s two-airport infrastructure — Dabolim Airport and Manohar International Airport at Mopa — has enhanced accessibility and expanded the state’s reach in domestic and international markets.

Tourism Director Kedar Naik said the steady growth during the first five months of 2026 reflects the strength and adaptability of Goa’s tourism sector.

“Through focused destination development, improved connectivity and promotion of varied tourism experiences, Goa is attracting visitors throughout the year and encouraging them to explore different facets of the destination,” he said.

Naik added that the department’s focus remains on improving visitor experiences while promoting responsible and sustainable tourism growth.

The Tourism Department said Goa is entering the second half of 2026 with positive momentum and remains committed to developing an inclusive and sustainable tourism ecosystem for long-term growth.
