Mangaluru, Jun 28: The National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) has directed all concerned hospitals across the country to furnish information regarding the success rate, failure rate, long-term effects, and mortality rate of organ transplant surgeries, with a special emphasis on kidney transplants.

NOTTO director Anil Kumar issued these instructions to the chief secretaries and health department secretaries of all states on June 19.

According to the directive, hospitals are required to provide comprehensive information to patients prior to any organ transplant. Instructions have been given to openly share details with the patient and their family members about potential post-operative consequences and the risks associated with the transplant.

Before obtaining consent for a kidney transplant, patients and their families must have access to accurate data regarding the surgery, including its success rate, mortality rate, and long-term effects post-transplantation.

In this background, member of parliament Brijesh Chowta had written a letter to union health minister J P Nadda on May 22. He had requested that hospitals performing organ transplants, including kidneys, be instructed to collect all relevant data and publish it on their respective websites.
