Mumbai, Jun 28: Five members of a family lost their lives in a devastating road accident after their speeding car crashed into a stationary container truck on the Samruddhi Mahamarg in Maharashtra's Amravati district on Sunday, police said.
The accident occurred around noon in Dhamangaon Railway tehsil. The impact of the collision was so severe that the car was completely mangled, killing all five occupants on the spot.
The deceased comprised two men, two women and a young girl. Preliminary information suggests that all of them belonged to the same family and were residents of Chandrapur district.

According to police, the family was travelling from Nagpur to Mumbai when their vehicle rammed into the rear of a stationary container truck on the expressway.
Soon after receiving information about the crash, police personnel, emergency response teams and rescue workers rushed to the spot. Traffic on the expressway was temporarily disrupted as rescue operations were carried out and the damaged vehicle was cleared from the road.
Eyewitnesses said the car was travelling at high speed before crashing into the parked container. The force of the collision virtually destroyed the vehicle, leaving the occupants trapped inside with little chance of survival.
Rescue personnel extricated the victims from the wreckage and shifted them to Dhamangaon Rural Hospital, where doctors declared all five brought dead.
Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and registered a case. An investigation has been launched to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the fatal crash.
The tragic accident has cast a shadow of grief over the region and once again raised concerns over road safety on the Samruddhi Mahamarg.
In a separate incident on Saturday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Sudhir Gadgil escaped with minor injuries after his vehicle met with an accident in Maharashtra's Sangli district.
According to reports, Gadgil was travelling from Mhaishal to Sangli when a two-wheeler rider suddenly came in front of his vehicle on the Arjunwad service road, resulting in a collision. The airbags deployed during the crash, helping protect the legislator from serious injuries, while the motorcyclist sustained injuries and was admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
