SMVITM students develop ‘MITRA, An assistive gesture glove for Indian Sign Language’

Udupi, Jun 29: The department of electronics and communication engineering at Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM) has successfully developed MITRA (Multilingual Intelligent Translator for Recognition and Assistance), an innovative assistive gesture glove designed for Indian Sign Language (ISL).

The project aims to provide a low-cost, portable solution that recognizes Indian Sign Language gestures and converts them into text and speech in multiple languages. The system is intended to bridge communication gaps and assist hearing and speech impaired individuals in their day-to-day interactions.

The project was sponsored by the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST) and was carried out by final-year electronics and communication engineering students K Arjun Shenoy, Madhusudan S, Preetham V Amin, and Rahul Raghunatha Shettigar under the guidance of Dr Punith Bekal.
