Bantwal, Jun 30: A 58-year-old man lost his life to electrocution after an iron pipe he was handling accidentally touched a live electric wire. The tragic incident took place in Meramajalu village under the Bantwal rural police station limits.

The deceased has been identified as A Ismail (58), a resident of Meramajalu.

According to a complaint filed by his son Mohammad Safwan, Ismail was constructing a shed in front of a petty shop on the evening of June 28. After fixing two iron pipes into the ground, he lifted another 20-foot-long iron pipe upwards to clear the sand stuck inside it. The pipe accidentally came into contact with an electric wire passing in front of the shop. Ismail suffered a severe electric shock and collapsed to the ground.

Safwan immediately rushed his father to a private hospital in Padil, Mangaluru. However, doctors confirmed that he passed away later that night, failing to respond to treatment.

An unnatural death report (UDR) case has been registered at the Bantwal rural police station, and the police have initiated an investigation into the matter under section 194 of the BNSS Act, 2023.
