Mangaluru: Severe sea erosion threatens Panambur Beach

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (NJC)

Mangaluru, Jul 13: Severe sea erosion has intensified at the Panambur international beach in Mangaluru, triggered by high-velocity winds and turbulent wave action. The advancing shoreline has caused significant sand displacement, directly threatening key coastal infrastructure and visitor safety.

The erosion has reached critical areas close to the beach's main ticket counter and administrative office. The force of the tides has already uprooted at least two large trees along the beachfront.

In response to the escalating situation, emergency mitigation measures have been initiated near the Coast Guard office, where authorities have placed massive boulders to form a temporary retaining wall to check the advancing waves.

However, because many stretches of the beach lack permanent sea walls, the high winds continue to rapidly wash away the shoreline.

Local stakeholders and residents warn that if the harsh weather persists, it will severely compromise beach safety and halt tourist movement. They have urgently appealed to the government for an immediate, permanent anti-sea erosion project to safeguard the popular destination.
