Udupi: College student, younger brother drown in Uttara Kannada stream

Udupi, Jul 14: Two brothers drowned while swimming in a stream on Sunday at Mastijaddi village near Unchalli in Sirsi taluk of Uttara Kannada district.

The deceased have been identified as Madan Naik (16) and Harsha Naik (18), both residents of Honnavar. Harsha was a second-year BCA student at a private college in Brahmavar.

According to reports, the brothers had gone swimming at a bandhara (check dam) across a stream when they accidentally ventured into a deep section of the water, estimated to be around 15 feet, and drowned.

Upon receiving information, a rescue team led by Gopal Gowda of the Sri Marikamba Rescue Team rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies.

Banavasi police station PSI Mahantappa Kumbar visited the scene and conducted a preliminary inspection. The bodies were later shifted to Sirsi for post-mortem examination.

A case has been registered at the Banavasi police station, and further investigation is underway.

The management, faculty members, and students of the college in Brahmavar expressed their heartfelt condolences over the untimely demise of the student and his younger brother.
