Mumbai, Jul 16: Three passengers were injured after a dispute over seating turned violent aboard an Ambernath-bound suburban train in Maharashtra's Thane district shortly after midnight on Thursday, railway police said.

The incident occurred around 12.30 am in the luggage compartment of the Parel-Ambernath local train while it was travelling between Dombivli and Thakurli stations, according to Central Railway.

A preliminary investigation by the Government Railway Police (GRP) found that the altercation began over sharing a seat and escalated into a physical fight. The injured were identified as Raju Waghe (19), Sahil Khandare (19), and Pritesh Kanojia (31).

Senior Inspector Archana Dusane of the Kalyan GRP said that two passengers sustained head injuries during the scuffle.

Central Railway clarified that no sharp weapon was used in the incident. The injuries were caused by a metal kada (bangle) worn by one of the passengers.

GRP and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel attended to the injured after the train reached Kalyan railway station. They were given first aid and shifted to Rukminibai Hospital in Kalyan, while one passenger with a serious head injury was later referred to Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital (Sion Hospital) in Mumbai for further treatment.

In a separate incident, a 49-year-old man was taken into custody after a video showed him running with a wooden stick on a platform at Kurla railway station on Wednesday night, causing panic among commuters.

The man, identified as Sajid Abdul Karim Chaudhary, was immediately apprehended by security personnel. Preliminary inquiries indicated that he appeared to be mentally unstable. He remains in GRP custody, and further investigation is underway.
