Nagpur, Jul 19: A woman was killed and her husband sustained serious injuries after an electric goods rickshaw overturned on Tarsa Road in the Kanhan area of Nagpur district after its headlight allegedly failed, police said.
According to police, Ankit Bharat Patil was travelling in his goods e-rickshaw with his wife, Sheetal Patil, along Tarsa Road in Kanhan when the vehicle's headlight suddenly stopped functioning near Nilaj village. As it was night, darkness reduced visibility and the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and overturn.
Sheetal Patil, who was travelling in the vehicle, was trapped beneath the overturned e-rickshaw and suffered critical injuries. Ankit Patil also sustained serious injuries to his head, waist and leg in the accident.

With the help of local residents, both were rushed to the Kanhan Primary Health Centre for treatment. However, Sheetal had succumbed to her injuries before reaching the hospital. Doctors declared her dead on examination.
Police have registered a case against Ankit Patil, alleging that he continued to drive the vehicle negligently despite the headlight failure, resulting in the fatal accident.
A case has been registered under Sections 281 and 106(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation is underway.
