Sanguem, Jul 19: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has intensified its crackdown on illegal trekking to Dudhsagar Falls, booking 32 tourists for trespassing on railway property during a special enforcement drive.
The tourists were caught while trekking along the railway tracks in the Braganza Ghat section, a route that has been declared off-limits due to safety concerns. All 32 were charged under Section 147 of the Railways Act (Jan Vishwas Act) for unauthorised entry onto railway premises.
Each individual was fined Rs 500, with the RPF collecting a total of Rs 16,000 in penalties during the one-day operation.

South Western Railway once again reminded the public that access to Dudhsagar Falls through railway tracks remains strictly prohibited, particularly during the monsoon, when the route becomes highly dangerous.
Railway officials said the Braganza Ghat stretch is especially hazardous because of fluctuating water levels, poor visibility, slippery surfaces and the narrow railway corridor. Despite repeated advisories, many visitors continue to reach the falls through forest trails before stepping onto the railway tracks, exposing themselves to serious risks.
The RPF said similar enforcement drives will continue in the coming weeks and urged tourists to avoid unauthorised routes. Authorities emphasised that walking on railway tracks is not only illegal but also poses a grave threat to life, especially during the rainy season.
