Jerusalem, Aug 2: Extremist Israeli settlers allegedly attacked the Palestinian village of Surif in the occupied West Bank overnight, injuring three Palestinians and setting fire to buildings and vehicles, according to reports citing Army Radio.

The attackers reportedly torched several buildings and cars, assaulted residents with clubs and tear gas, and spray-painted threatening graffiti on structures in the village.

Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) troops were dispatched to the area shortly after the incident to search for the attackers and gather evidence. Security personnel found burnt vehicles and graffiti at the scene, but no arrests had been made in connection with the attack at the time of reporting.

Israel Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

The latest attack comes amid heightened tensions in the West Bank, where authorities have intensified efforts to curb violence involving extremist settlers.

Earlier this week, security officials arrested an Israeli resident of the West Bank for allegedly taking part in a similar extremist attack in Huwara in June, during which several Palestinians were injured and required hospital treatment. Many of the attackers in that incident were reportedly masked to conceal their identities.

On Monday, the IDF deployed two additional battalions to the West Bank in response to a recent escalation in both extremist settler violence and Palestinian militant attacks.
