Mumbai, Aug 7: Residents in several parts of Mumbai will face water supply disruption for 24 hours from August 11 as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) undertakes maintenance work on the city’s water distribution network.
The civic body announced that a partial shutdown of the 2,400-mm Vaitarna water pipeline will be carried out from 10 am on Tuesday, August 11, to 10 am on Wednesday, August 12, to strengthen the water supply infrastructure in K South and H East wards.
The entire H East Ward will witness a complete suspension of water supply during the maintenance period. The affected areas include Santacruz East, Khar East and Bandra East.
In K South Ward, several areas will receive water at low pressure during specified timings. Localities including Kabir Nagar, Bamanwada, Parsiwada, Airport area, Tarun Bharat Colony, Islampura, Deulwadi, Fish Market, Ghativada, Chakala and P&T Colony will get low-pressure supply between 2 pm and 5.30 pm on August 11.
Koldongri, Old Police Lane, Vijay Nagar on Sahar Road and Mograpada will receive low-pressure water supply between 5 pm and 10 pm on the same day.
On August 12, Sahar Village, Sutar Pakhadi and Cargo Complex areas will experience low-pressure supply between 5 am and 8 am.
The BMC said there will be no water supply during the shutdown period in areas including Domestic Airport, Hangar Staff Colony, Air India Colony, Santacruz East, Bandra Terminus and Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC).
The civic authorities have appealed to residents to store sufficient water in advance and use it judiciously during the disruption. People have also been advised to boil and filter drinking water for a few days after the supply resumes.
Meanwhile, Mumbai’s water stock remains stable, with the city’s seven lakes holding 88.76 per cent of their total live storage capacity as of August 6, according to data from the Hydraulic Engineer’s Department at the Bhandup Master Control Centre.
The reservoirs currently hold 12,84,608 million litres of water. Among the seven lakes, Modak Sagar, Vihar and Tulsi have reached full capacity, while Tansa stands at 99.42 per cent.
Middle Vaitarna has 91.99 per cent storage, Bhatsa 86.28 per cent and Upper Vaitarna 78.83 per cent.
