Mumbai, Sep 24: With lakhs of devotees expected to participate in Ganpati visarjan on Anant Chaturdashi on September 25, the Mumbai Police has deployed more than 23,000 personnel and intensified security arrangements across the city.

The police have deployed around 10,000 CCTV cameras, including AI-enabled cameras equipped with facial-recognition technology, at major immersion points. Drones will also be used to monitor crowd density, with additional forces to be moved to locations witnessing heavy crowds.

The deployment comprises 3,213 police officers, 18,940 police personnel and 1,050 trainees. Six Joint Commissioners of Police, nine Additional Commissioners, 38 Deputy Commissioners and 66 Assistant Commissioners will supervise the security arrangements.

Around 3,500 traffic personnel have also been deployed to regulate traffic and manage routes used for Ganpati idol immersion.

The police have coordinated with the Railways and Metro authorities to extend services through the night, helping devotees return home and easing road congestion during the immersion festivities.
