Mumbai, Sep 30: Veteran Bollywood producer Vashu Bhagnani has reportedly been hospitalised in London, with the reason for his hospitalisation not disclosed.

According to news agency ANI, Bhagnani is currently in the UK, where he is based. When contacted, he asked to be left “alone”. Further details about his health condition are awaited.

The development comes shortly after reports of Income Tax Department searches at 12 locations in Mumbai linked to Bhagnani, his daughter-in-law and actor Rakul Preet Singh, and filmmaker Kumar Mangat-led Panorama Studios.

The searches, conducted on September 28, were reportedly part of an inquiry into suspected financial irregularities. Investigators are examining documents, financial records and alleged overseas transactions, with reports suggesting that funds may have been routed abroad under the guise of financing film projects.

However, the Income Tax Department has not publicly disclosed its findings or confirmed that any tax violation has been established. The investigation is understood to be ongoing.

Bhagnani founded Pooja Entertainment in 1995 and made his debut as a producer with Govinda-starrer Coolie No. 1 the same year. He subsequently produced films including Hero No. 1, Biwi No. 1, Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya and Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein.

In recent years, Pooja Entertainment has faced a series of box-office setbacks, including Bell Bottom and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. The production house has also faced financial difficulties, with employees reportedly raising concerns over unpaid dues.

Bhagnani's son Jackky Bhagnani began his acting career with Kal Kisne Dekha in 2009 and later moved into film production. He joined Pooja Entertainment in 2016 and married actor Rakul Preet Singh in 2024.

Rakul Preet Singh and Vashu Bhagnani have not publicly responded to the reported Income Tax searches. Further details about the investigation and Bhagnani's health condition are awaited.
