Kundapur: Four Child Beggars Rescued, Inter-district Racket Suspected

Daijiworld Media Network - Kundapur

Kundapur, May 11: Four children who were engaged in begging in Kundapur and surrounding places were rescued from Shastri circle here on Thursday May 10.

Acting under the direction of DC Dr Reju, officials of the labour department and Kedoor Spoorthi Dhama and others conducted a routine check and were told by the people that a few children were engaged in begging near Shastri circle.

Based on this information, the team raided the area and rescued Jyoti (12), Bhoomika (10), Sangeeta (9) and Sharavana (11).

All the children are from Bangalore, and speak fluent Kannada, Tamil and Telugu. Presently, they were put up in tents at Trasi along with their families, it is learnt.

The children were armed with false letters requesting help for deaf and dumb, with the name of a Hyderabad court printed on them. The children would pester bus passengers and other commuters with these letters and tell lies to get money out of them.

It is suspected that a child begging is a network that is increasing spreading itself in the district, and that it may be an inter-district racket, considering that these children were from Bangalore.

One of the children said that they were made to beg and whatever money they managed to get was snatched by a man who would blow it on alcohol in the evenings. They were also told to act deaf and dumb, they said.

The rescued children were handed over to Spoorthi Dhama and will then be taken to the district child welfare department.

These childrens should be put it orphanages and be given good education. Educate the parents as well as children

It is high time that governement bring a legislation abolishing begging by children or child begging, just like child labor, child marriage etc. It is irony that children are kidnapped from remote places for begging. Once these children grow up, girls end up as prostitutes and boys end up pimps or alocoholics. The beggar mafia enjosy the life at the cost of these children and the parents and their children. The mafia has no ethics or values and they have already tasted the easy way of making money. Today it is some body else's children tomorrow it will be our children. It is unimaginable. There is no reason to not to ban child begging, as we have enough NGOs' to accommodate such children and give them a decent future
