Udupi: Indian Red Cross Society Organizes Blood Donation Day

Udupi, Jun 14: The Udupi branch of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) in association with Government. P U College, Udupi, organized a camp to mark ‘Blood Donation Day’ on Thursday June 14 at Red Cross Office, Udupi.
 
All staff and students from Government PU College, Ajjarkad, Udupi, participated in the function. On this occasion, the Udupi branch of the IRCS felicitated six members who have donated blood for 30 to 50 times in their life.

The function was inaugurated by Dr G Shankar, principal, Government College, Ajjarkad, Udupi, while chief guest was Dr Ram Hakandra Bayari, district health and welfare officer , Udupi, and presided over by Basroor Rajeev Shetty, chairman, IRCS,  Udupi district.
 
In his welcome address, K Ramchandra Devadiga, secretary, IRCS, Udupi, said in his speech that blood and water have no alternative in this world and any contribution goes to another person and so it is a holy deed and the greatest donation in this world.
 
The organization felicitated six members- Narahari Pai, who donated blood 50 times and got 13 friends to join in this mission, Poornesh Malpe, an employee from Manipal who  has given blood 26 times, Roopa Ramesh Karvik, a teacher who has donated blood 13 times, Hemanth Kumar U from Balikare, working at Manipal who has donated blood 32 times, Ramesh M Karvik, working in fisheries who has given blood whenever needed, and Manjunath Karvik, a teacher who gives blood whenever needed.
 
Junjanna, information department, Udupi, and Prof C Ashwathama were also present at the function.
