Mangalore, Jun 23: "Presently, as there is intense competition in the education sector, it is the duty of the institutions to train the teachers in providing updated information to the students. However, we lack such quality education, which has indirectly encouraged tutorial market," said Dr M Mohan Alva, renowned educationalist and chairman of Alva's Education Foundation, Moodbidri.

He addressed the gathering of children on 'Educational empowerment for 10th standard students' organized under the banner of Muslim Educational Institutions Federation (MEFI) and Minority Guidance Forum (MGF) at Town Hall here on Saturday June 23.

Dr Alva said that the tutorials have made use of the inability of the institutions to train the students. "The institutions are unable to train the students with updated resources for competitive exams. Making use of this inability, the tutorial has turned out to be a business," he said.

He said that educational institutions should not be a channel to make money but should be catalysts for growth and education, rendering the best training to ensure the success of students.

"There are a lot of opportunities and competitiveness in the present era, the vision and the ways to reach one's goal should be right," he said.

B A Moideen, former minister for higher education, Syed Mohammed Beary, chairman of Bearys Group of Institutions also spoke.

B M Mumthaz Ali, Y Mahammad Beary, president of MEIF, Moosabba P Beary, president of MGF, B A Nazeer and Nissar F Mohammed were present at the programme.

Felicitation to meritorius SSLC and PUC students was also the part of the event.

The schools and colleges should have the following ingredients for the success in education
1.The School management should have a mission in mind to impart quality education without any preset religious or cultural bias to the public. They should not have an attitude of making huge business profit
2.The school teachers should be well qualified and should have good communication skills ,Teaching skills in such a way that every student should feel that learning is a joy ,playful and enriching
    3. Never ever the Teachers should beat or punish students that spoils their character and hence carrier
    4. Over discipline is not good .Should not be very strict should be a little flexible
5.Should conduct lot of extracurricular activities
6.The Japanese model -A class of 40 is divided into 4 groups or teams and each team should aim for excellance .It is not individual .Hence if one student is poor in my team I will teach him .Train him ,Help him in such a way that my Team becomes the best in the class .Always aim for collective excellence than individual excellence

I fully agree with Dr.Mohan Alva and endorse his opinion about present day's lack of focus on quality education which in turn encouraging tutorials to flourish like mushrooms purely on monetary benefits not in the interest of students career.Institutions should focus on imparting quality education to the students whereby they become future generation.Nowadays teachers are ill equipped with total knowldge of education thereby depriving students opportunities for growing and enhancing their skills, finally they land up in tutorials.
