Bangalore, Jul 28: In accordance with the orders from the Karnataka government, temples around the state offered special prayers for rain on Friday July 27. It now seems the prayers have been already answered, as heavy rains were reported from parts of coastal districts as well as Malnad regions.

A farmer was washed away due to heavy floods in Hassan.

Bangalore - Mangalore highway was the worst affected on Friday evening, as floods and landslides were reported in the Shiradi Ghat region.

The Netravati Express train from Bangalore to Mangalore was stopped at Hassan due to landslide in Shiradi. The highway was closed for almost five hours from 12 noon to 5 in the evening.

Heavy rains were also reported from Subramanya, Sringeri, Karkala, Kadaba, Bantwal and other places.

Schools in Beltangady taluk declared holiday due to heavy rains. In Uppinnagady the water levels in Kumaradhara and Netravati rivers have reached a height of 29 metres. Some of the low-lying areas have been flooded.

Meantime, prayers in temples around the state, especially around the coastal regions continued on Friday. Famous temples like Kollur, Kateel, Mandarthi, Subramanya, Mangaladevi, and others offered mass prayers.

It may be recalled that state muzrai minister Kota Srinivas Poojary had released a sum of Rs 17.5 crores to about 34,000 temples, at Rs 5000 each, to offer prayers for rains in the state.

Speaking to daijiworld, Poojary expressed his happiness on the generosity of the rain god. "I am happy that parts of the state experienced heavy rains bringing relief to the people, especially to farmers. This is the fruit of the prayers by the people of the state," he said.

Raining is coincidence or reply of prayer from all the religions, one thing is sure most of the people pray the God when they are in distress. But politicians, irrespective of party, every one try to politicise the things, but not making any plans or projects to save the water for future. If the same tendency continue, God may not give more chances to the politicians and people voted them will suffer.

its not about Hindus money being spent , its about how the Hindus money is spent? is it ok for all Hindus to see their hard earned money to go waste on such things?? why dont you ask for rain harvesting , tress planting , helping those Hindus in need with the temple money. someone mentioned jealousy.. the world n it s people know who is jealous of whom n who is trying to copy whom n because of which disharmony is being spread. at the end God is great. Bless us God everyday with rain, not only the day n the next day the prayers are offered to you, by some individuals comments here i think we have to offer puja everyday to get rains becoz today is a sunny day...

Gerald,Modankap,Bantval: At least for once a small portion of the hefty money collected from all Muzrai Temples of Karnataka has spent on puja's to bring smile on the face of farmers in particular and general public in general. The almighty has got the habit of answering the prayers, sometimes and this time State Govt. is lucky, their prayers yielding rains.

You may call it as a coincidence or shower from happy Varuna, it is on your discretion but the amount spent on these prayers was not the Tax Payers money, it was the donation of Hindu believers all over the state used to please their own rain god, which did tricks.

There is no harm in the Govt organizing puja's or prayers for well being of the state. The money spent is neither a bribe or tax money as these funds are generated by the temples through contributions by the hindu community. Please don't unnecessary use disparaging words or abuse the majority community in name of some silly expert comments.

shahnawaz kukkikatte - Please don't talk rubbish about the priestly community getting starved. People are noble hearted and kind enough to give alms to this pious community. We don't kill or maime people in the name of god.

What a lousy system in place.. ??????????Then why is the "Hora kanike Dabbi's liketemples in front of Darga's & mosuques ? Whay do you go begging to Gulf sheiks to byuild mosques every 100 meter's ?. All this money is accumalated is for who's welfare , gods welfare??. Talking about byheartning, why do you byheart " Quran" and why do the mullas shout the verses it 5 times a day ?
Before blindly commenting on other religious practices please introspect.Temple's like Dharmasthala, Kateel, Subramanaya, Adhi Chuncahnagiri, JSS, Kollur & Udupi Matt are running number of educational insititutions, hospitals & other social welfare centers with this same money providing education, better treatments at modest prices, free marriages etc. Yes of course, the management running it also need a source of income to run their family. Mishandling of funds do happen here like evrywhere now and then, for that one reason you dont have to veiw everything in KAAMALE KANNU.

I fully endorse your views in the first para. But second para is not expected from a devout muslim that too during the Holy Ramazan fasting times. If you dont have good opinion about worshing in other religion that in Hindism whatever you do now worship and do fasting is MERELY A WASTE AND SIMPLY A SHOW OFF.PLEASE SHUN IT IF YOU DONT ACCEPT WORSHIP OF OTHERS AND HAVE ILL FEELINGS.
I do remember, you sometimes back on some occasion(during natural calamity) in this web commited that hencefoth will not write ill about others.I was under the impression that you have really changed but alas your originality never changed.I can also comment to counter your nasty thinking but will not do so because I am afraid they may hurt good muslim readers which I dont wish to.

You people might be bribing your god for various reasons. We are not bothered about your community. We are not interested in what you people do in your worship places.

But our god does not accept bribe. Our god accepts only true heart prayer. It is the single voice prayer offered across the state and our prayer have been answered within few hours.

But now you are very jealous. We can't help you for that. If you don't believe in this, keep your mouth shut. Don't poke your nose into our religious matters. Mind your own business.

Further, to Clarify the 17 crore spent for this Pooja is neither the Govt money, nor the Tax payers money. It is a Offering (KANIKE) given by one of the community people to the God which was asked to utilise for this Pooja... This pooja really shown the strength it had in it.. JAI HO....

It is the height of foolishness to spend money from the tax payers and offer puja for the rains. It would have rained even without the pujas in monsoon. Don't attribute rain to pujas in order to justify the bribe taken to please God. What God wants is moral uprightness and not worship with corrupt heart.
