"Soon two little souls will call me Amma" – Bhavana Ramanna embraces motherhood via IVF in her 40s

Bengaluru, Jul 4: Popular actress and classical dancer Bhavana Ramanna has chosen an unconventional path to fulfil her dream of motherhood. In a heartfelt revelation, the 40-something artiste shared that she is six months pregnant with twins, conceived through IVF. As a single woman, Bhavana says her decision was not born out of rebellion but a deep, personal calling that became stronger as she entered her 40s.

Bhavana recalled growing up in a vibrant household filled with family and children, which naturally instilled in her a fondness for the idea of parenting. However, motherhood wasn’t something she seriously considered in her 20s or 30s. It was only after turning 40 that the desire became deeply rooted, and she began exploring the path of assisted reproduction. Despite initial setbacks — including IVF clinics turning her away simply because she was unmarried — Bhavana persisted. Eventually, she found a supportive doctor and clinic near her home, and the treatment succeeded in the very first attempt.

The actress shared how her father reacted with joy upon hearing about her decision. “He told me, ‘You’re a woman — and you have every right to become a mother.’ That reassurance meant everything,” Bhavana said, adding that her siblings too stood by her unwaveringly. Though she encountered occasional judgement from others, her clarity and confidence never wavered.

Bhavana is now focused on preparing for the arrival of her twins and has thought deeply about raising them with strong values, self-belief, and a rich cultural upbringing. She promises her children a home filled with warmth, tradition, and artistic grace. “They may not have a father, but they will be surrounded by kind, strong male figures from my family. They will grow up knowing love, truth, and identity,” she said.

Reflecting on the societal prejudice against single mothers, Bhavana shared a friend's recent experience of being denied a house on rent due to her status. She expressed concern that such mindsets still persist in modern times. “I didn’t choose this path to defy society. I chose it because I wanted to become a mother, and I believe that desire is enough.”

As she looks forward to welcoming her twins later this year, Bhavana says she is embracing this new chapter with pride and serenity. “Soon, I will have two little souls who will call me ‘amma’ — and that is more than enough.”
