London, Aug 5 (IANS/RIA Novosti): Britain's Jessica Ennis won gold in the Olympic women's heptathlon Saturday, winning the 800 meters race.
Ennis had a virtually unassailable lead of 184 points going into the middle-distance finale after a 6.48 meter long jump and a personal best in the javelin of 47.49 meters.
She ran two minutes, 8.65 seconds and to take the gold with 6,955 points by more than 300 points from Tatyana Chernova of Russia.
Lyudmila Yosypenko of Ukraine took the bronze with 6618 points.
Ennis, 26, is the first Briton to win the heptathlon since Denise Lewis in Sydney 12 years ago.
