Mangalore, Aug 12: As many as 32 families, comprising around 100 people were relocated from flooded areas of Panja, Ulya and Kilenjoor to safer places as a precautionary measure here on Saturday August 11 evening.

It is learnt that as the district administration did not provide motorized boat for the operation, manual boats were used to shift the people to a safer place, which took more time.

MLA Abhayachandra Jain said, "Among the people who were shifted, a majority were women and children. People were not ready to move as they feared about their cattle which had to be left behind," he said.

People who were relocated were provided with food at Panja school and in Shibarooru temple.

MLA Abhayachandra Jain, Eshwar Kateel, zilla panchayat member, Ravichandra Nayak, tashildar, DCP Mutturaya from Mangalore, Panambur ACP Puttamadhayya, Basheer Ahmed, Kasturi Panja, Sathish Bhat, Suresh, Mayyadi, Taara Shetty, Sumalatha among others visited the spot.

Yathish Baikampady of Panambur beach development project helped in relocating the people by sending his safety divers. In Kilenjoor around five families agreed to shift and they were provided with a boat.

ACP Puttamadhaiyya said families who did not agree to shift will be convinced.

Haleangady too witnessed heavy rains disrupting normal life. On Friday, a small dam constructed of mud to store water is said to be washed away. Due to this the people living along the banks of the river have been affected as water might enter the house. The families have kept their boats ready as a precaution.

As many as 100 acres of low lying fields across the region are said to be inundated.

Thank you daijee world for updating us the situation of our hometown with pictures. Our media channels (Hindi n English) normally air international flood news as headline, but not bothered to publish such a big national news. We get only one channel tv9 in Mumbai through cable network which just shown some clippings and busy with some unwanted news.

People were praying for rain and cores of rupees was spent for Puja's, and finally rain has come in abundance, now what? after 2 to 3 months same old story for drinking water, me and you all take things for granted, why don’t we say our religious leaders, politicians to spend money on water conservation, instead of spending cores on Puja's.Small things will do a huge difference.Dont polute the small rivers, if we can have small dams for these rivers, rain water can be preserved for summer, and the water level will increase, if we polute the rivers, it is not possibale to have a dam, since it will create unliveable condition for people who live along the river side, example is Kalmady dam. Anyways, people are so busy with politics and following them blindily.Route cause of all the problem is we the people, so you decide what to be change or happy with say old life.
