Mangalore, Aug 17: It was a surprise to the commuters near Kadri Park on Independence Day on Wednesday August 15, when a motorcylist vroomed on NH 66 and began performing 'stunts'.

Wheeling is considered dangerous on highway, and the administration does not allow such stunt on the roads. It may be recalled that a few months back a minor boy had caused the death of two persons while doing 'jeep-wheeling'.

Though on Wednesday it looked like entertainment for some, a senior cameraman from Udayavani captured pictures of the bikers.

Udayavani, a leading Kannada daily from the region published a report on the incident with pictures on Thursday August 16. Alerted by the report, police identified one of the bikers as Shabas Khan (21) from Kotekar and arrested him.

East traffic police, Mangalore, speaking to daijiworld said that this is a dangerous trend which could cause accidents on the highway. "Parents must warn their children against such stunts. Police will take strict action on all those who play with vehicles on highway or in city," he said.

The police congratulated the photographer and the newspaper for raising an alert with report and pictures.

Satish Ira, speaking to daijiworld said that after seeing the pictures captured by him, students have stopped doing such stunts.

I agree that this might not be the best place to be popping a wheelie. But is there any other facility where he can exibit his talent, and you have to agree not all of you posses the same talent, and it almost like youll are jealous. Not even half the people riding driving on the roads have a Drivers license, and other half dont follow rules anyways, and what has Mr.reporter done about that?? Its really stupid to single this kid out. And by law a wheelie would fall under negligent driving/riding, which is a fine-able offence unless he disputes it, which he cant because of the available evidence, so on what basis have the cops arrested him. Public nuisance? Bringing peoples life in danger..ok... wheres the FIR against him for the same... This is why we come back with a handful of medals or trophies in sports where ever we go. The whole attitude is 'i couldnt do it, i cant do it, so i wont let anyone else do it'. STUPID is all i can call this. And as for Shabas, dude find a safer place to this...

This bike stunt is like a contagious disease. Many youngsters may fall pray to it. InMumbai, it is very common at Worli sea face road at nights, and is a big headache to the police, since many accidents have taken place. Let this infection, not affect Mangalore streets. This practice should be stopped right in the bud and make living of Mangloreans more safe.Kudos to Mangalore police.

Well done Sathish Ira. It is highly risky now days to have safe ride in two wheelers since these kind of irresponsible boys ride on the life of other commuters even on the busy roads of mangalore. Last week i saw two bikers doing Zig Zag riding right from Lady hill to Kottara without any body's fear. Police and public should take them into task if found.

His talent need to be appreciated. I'm not sure we have bike rider's group who run bike races. He would be a perfect candidate. I wish I could hire him. His stunts could be used productively.

Police, please release this guy with warning. Stunts not on public road.

In south canara we have lot of village remote places that could be perfectly converted to bike racing activity. Could be big business and and this could be opportunity for young boys !

Recently we read the news in Daiji, a person lost his life during wheeling in Bangalore-Koramangala.

They have the freedom to do wheeling at their own risk. But doing it in traffic roads is danger for others.

    Good job by Mangalore police.

It is the time for Bangalore Police to act. I have seen people doing wheeling in heavy traffic BTM RING ROAD, KANAKAPURA Roads etc.

May be,this boy is not aware of some tragic incidents.Teenage boy was chased by police in Bangalore when he was doing dangerous stunts on busy road.On seeing police,he left bike and jumped the compound wall of Army Brigadier's bunglaw. But security guards mistook him for terrorist and shot him dead.In the second case,ex cricketer,MP Mohd Azaruddin lost his son when he was doing stunt with his race bike.He should be punished so that others will not follow him.GOOD FOR SOCIETY..

common guys.... let the young kids enjoy some adventures that oldies never did or had courage to do. Create a sporting zone or area for our teen agers. These kids just cannot just follow what old generations did. They need sportive life but the city should support the sports but dangerous driving in public area should be illegal.

It is natural, at young age when no proper opportunity available to show their talent, these kind of stunts come out to impress others. His parents should encourage him to utilize his energy in positive way. Punishing him or discouraging him is not the solution.

These kind of people should be taken to the emergency wards in hospitals and show how patients with accident cases are struggling for their life. I think only this method will make them understand the seriousness of playing with their life and others lives.

    RIGHT MOVE BY THE AUTHORITIES.
CIVILIAN ROADS ARE NOT RACE TRACKS OR CIRCUS STRETCHES.
THERE SHOULD BE ZERO TOLERANCE FOR SUCH ACTS WHICH PUT INNOCENT LIVES IN DANGER.
LET THE BOYS DO SOME SPORTS ACTIVITY INSTEAD.
