Bangalore: State Cabinet Clears Farm Loan Waiver to the Tune of Rs 3,500 Crore

From Our Special Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore

Bangalore, Aug 23: As many as 15 lakh farmers stand to benefit following the State Cabinet’s decision to approve the waiver of cooperative farm loans upto Rs 25,000 availed between August 1, 2011 and July 25 this year as recently announced by Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar in the Karnataka Assembly.

The decision on waiver of cooperative farm loans would put a financial burden of Rs 3,5000 crore to the State Exchequer.

Announcing the State Cabinet’s decision, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Visveshwara Hegde Kageri said the official government order for giving effect to the decision would be issued shortly.

The Cabinet also decided to launch the Own Seed Development Scheme at a cost of Rs 50 crore.

Arrangements would be made through various agencies for processing and certification of seeds grown by farmers, while necessary infrastructure and financial assistance would be provided under this scheme, the minister said.

Rs 2,160 Crore for Development of Roads

The Cabinet also decided to take up development of 30 km of roads in each of the 189 rural segments at a cost of Rs 2,160 crore.

He said 20 km of such rural roads have already been developed or are in the process of being completed.

As many as 53 housing projects of Karnataka Housing Board worth Rs 7,888 crore were also given the green signal. The Karnataka Housing Board would develop 1,30,471 plots and build 6,867 houses, Kageri said.

The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) was allotted about 40 acres of land at Kyalasanahalli, in the city outskirts, to start a “northern campus.”

A sum of Rs 300 crore would be released for constructing laboratories, toilets, and additional classrooms in degree colleges. As many as 19 private law colleges would get government grants, Kageri said.

Karnataka will be participating in the national land records modernisation programme as per another decision of the State Cabinet.

The Central Government would be providing financial assistance to the tune of 60 per cent, while the State has to contribute the balance 40 per cent, the minister said,

A cabinet sub-committee for overseeing filling up backlog posts of SCs and STs was reorganised with Kannada and Culture Minister Govind M Karjol as its chairman.

Alban Lewis your maths is correct. But you should read carefully. It is farm loans upto Rs 25,000. Some may have got less loans and therefore the total is less. Dont jump to conclusions without properly reading and understanding.

Also, Dinesh Poojary, have you taken over from Nagesh Naik? Or is it the same person in different name?

You seem to be daydreaming. The prospects of BJP coming back to power on its own are dim, unless Congress and JD(S) mess up so badly.

There is, however, no harm in daydreaming. Who knows miracles may happen, especially with all the Swamijis rallying behind Yeddy !

    15 lakh x 25000 37500 crores, there also 2500 crores golmal.
Next who knows if actually this loan waiver is done of those 15 lakh farmers? who will check with the banks who loaned this money?
My God! The scam is huge. If farmer does not agree to give back 50 to 75% waiver of the loan, then he will not get anything!!! See how farmers are black mailed by these politician.
My god, these politician, like yeddy and other BJP politicians really amking hay when the sun shines. There so much of urgency in these type of matters, as BJP politicians are so unsure of the next election.
It has been d at NATIONAL level that BJP is the most uncouth (unrefined) and Captains of cheaters/looters (which put Congress to shame, as lesser)
I hope justice will catch up with them for all this and also for the traumatisation of the so called minorities.
If people in power cannot judge these BJP scoundrels, God will judge them - wait and see
    Also God judge Congress too!!!!!

Dinesh Poojary, Kundapura/Bengaluru you are 100% correct. What i would say is that BJP people learnt corruption, but they dont know how to escape from that. Whereas the corrupt political party congress knows to make corruption and also know how to escape from that. I dont say that BJP is a perfect party, but when campare to other political parties like congress,JDS and others, BJP is still much better political party. So it's better to elect BJP again rather than electing mother of corrupt political party congress in the coming 2013 election. Jai HO BJP.

    Ismail Perinje,

What you said is 100% true. There is one proverb in Kannada - "Hannu tindavanu badukida, sippe tindavanu sikkibidda".

This is what happened in case of Yeddyurappa. People who ate 100 times more than him were not caught. He is the one who banned illegal mining, but unfortunately he was named corrupt.

But people knows the truth. They will take the decision in 2013.

Congis can read this twice. This is what we call development.

This will make congress jealous of BJP. Congi team is in Delhi yesterday and today to discuss about election plan. They do not want BJP to do any work, so that they can win elections.

They are not doing and they do not want others to do. Leg pulling and Back stabbing....

Thanks to BS Yediurappa who ordered to waive the loans up to 25,000,of farmers which whole treasury bench or oppn bench can't do all these days. That is why BSY is a (political)leader who has charisma and following among all communities. Unfortunately,he did get a tag of CORRUPT/ADAMANT POLITICIAN who is not compromising with the decision he made good or bad.
