How Rs 30 Lac Fake Currency Cleared at Mangalore Airport ?

Stephen Kayyar
Daijiworld Media Network - Kasargod

Kasargod, Aug 25 : Kasargod police are conducting an in-depth investigation into the fake currency racket scandal in which fake notes to the tune of Rs. 30 lakhs were transported through Mangalore Airport recently.  It may be recalled  that Kasargod police had arrested the two  accused Abdul Jabbar and Usman of Bantwal on Friday, August 23, 2012 in this connection.

Abdul Jabbar and Usman

During the police interrogation, Usman disclosed   that he had travelled from Dubai with two luggage bags  containing one  Rs 24 lakhs bag and another Rs 6 lakhs  bag given to  him by one  Moidin Haji from Dubai.  Usman was asked to handover the bags to two people in Kasargod by Moidin Haji.  He had   already handed over the bag containing Rs. 6 lakhs to one Abdul Jabbar of Kasaragod, Kaidakkadi and another Rs 24 lakhs had been handed over to another person, whose identity he did not divulge.

It has now been realized that dubai-based Moidin Haji has emerged as the main kingpin behind this fake currency racket and the police are said to be on his hunt following these revelations.

Usman will be produced before the court by the police and it is expected that the police will seek his custody for   some more days to get more details pertaining this fake currency racket.

Speaking to daijiworld, Kasargod police team has expressed its astonishment and apprehensions on how the duo had managed to come out of the Mangalore Airport with huge bags stashed with fake notes without arousing the suspicion of the customs officials.
The police also suggested that an enquiry against customs officials who were on duty on the day on which Usman believed to have travelled,  if whatever he has divulged so far is true.

Meanwhile police investigation has also revealed that the accused had shopped for gold worth Rs. 1.89 lakhs at Malabar Gold in Kanhangad.  Police are also interrogating the other accused Abdul Jabbar, to make a thorough investigation into the matter and see the involvement of big names in this fake currency racket.

Since we have freedom of press to express our feelings, people may say anything. But same time they fail to understand that airport scanner is meant for metal detector and shape of the goods only. If you rap it with proper packing, even currency notes will not be seen properly in scanner machine too unless Customs Officers ask that person what it contains in that packet. Within the span of 45 days I had travelled to Mangalore from Dubai twice and I witnessed their scanning activities going rigorously without leaving any stone unturned and they even become so rude if passenger starts arguing to evade customs duty. Since I had to pay customs duty for carrying liquor bottle more than allowed, I had an opportunity to talk to one of the Customs Officer coolly and he reiterates that prevailing customs duty rule on gold and jewelry is very old but they are helpless too. They even forgo women passengers wearing gold ornaments which are easily notable as more than enough for their normal life but people carrying more than 200, 300 grams of gold in their luggage are forced to show the ornaments for customs assessments. They even show their frustration since most of our Daiji World Readers blame or abuse Customs Officers in Mangalore Airport too

One thing is sure that without the help of any customs authority personnel they could not have make it, also We can't say there may be involvemnt of some central ministers since all the Airport & Customs authority controlled by central Govt.Without these ministers support the coustoms personnel would'nt have made dare to help these culprits. If so then these criminals are safe & Police can never get in to the root of this crime.
