Mangalore, Aug 26: The district has been recieving a heavy downpour of rainfall during the past week. Heavy rains lashed the city on Sunday August 25, creating innumerable problems for the citizens.

In Yekkur, heavy rains resulted in a flood-like situation in lower areas. Water has entered most houses and nearby shops, disrupting life and damaging property. Several roads were submerged under floodwaters making transport and communication difficult. Many places have been water-logged disrupting normal life.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Bhaskar Chandra Shetty (Chairman of  MCC Health committee) said that along the borders of Kankanady and Jeppinamogaru, water has entered and created havoc is almost 15 houses.

Comissioner and district administrators have sent a boat as a means for public to travel across the roads. He says that people who built the houses have a weak foundation and due to that the water has caused damage. Two temporary drains have been constructed for the water to flow easily.

Dr Nidarsh Hegde, commandant of Home guards, DK and Udupi, under the direction of MCC commissioner along with a team of 20 home guards have come along with the boat to help people cross the heavily flooded roads.

Overflowing water has been noticed in places like Kottara, Pandeshwar and some other low lying areas in the city.

Karnataka has recorded deficit rainfall of 31% during the peak months of June and August.

Here is the cry of the Maleraya -
OH man! you prayed for me to come
    But what have you done?
You have constructed buildings on either sides and not provided me proper place to flow.
Do not understand which way to run
I have no other go but to enter your den.
I am facing this problem for the past three years.
Is this your tactics to claim compensation to construct another complex?
Next year I will be back again
By then you make a way for me to flow.
Or keep a boat ready to row.

Heavy downpour is expected in these two months since “Makhe & Ubhe” monsoon seasons started now which is very essential for cultivation and plantation. That is the reason why we give fertilizers to our coconut trees with proper boundary around each coconut tree. But unfortunately our Municipalities still lack in proper drainage system due to increased construction activities around Mangalore and Udupi Cities which leads to sudden flood like situation around major cities as expected

Maleyadarenu.. Chaliyadarenu... Bisiladarenu... our people are always cheerful. It is only because of our rotten politicians and the political system, we can't dream of the much desired and needed development.

It is highly doubtful.. if we can ever become a developed nation. Unfortunately, our rich natural resources, natonal wealth are being looted and not being put to right use thanks to our corrupt politicians and bureaucrats.

Congis have not built any drainage system in Kudla during last 65 years.

BJP has tried/trying its best, very soon we won't have any such problem. Hats off to DVS, YEddi and Shettarji.

MUDA & MCC not taken proper steps while issuing permission to construct commercial complex & layouts. We have to blame those two authorities. Now if they make drains also it will be very difficult to control he artificial flood.

Major problem of this sort of flood in Megha city is constructions. The lands which once where paddy fields/water logging areas, are now converted to residential sites or layouts. All these area above where once paddy fields just below 15years.

During heavy rains then, water use to accumalate in these area till low tides in sea in case of heavy rains, & now there is no area to carry excess water in case of heavy rains. Similar situation was faced by low lying areas in Mumbai few years back where water logged for about a week & in some areas upto 7-12 feet high. This doccumentary was telecasted by National Geographic Channel several times.

It looks like this is not a natural or normal flood-water.

Main cause for thsi mega construction work, new building covering the way of natural water.

MUDA has to plan according to nature not accrding to engineering design or architecture design.

One thing remember we can not fight with nature.

    Nature always got upperhand.

I don't think Karnataka received sufficient rain. But if we receive sufficient rain, Mangalore will be in problem of "artificial floods" due to lack of drainage.
