While reading the Bible, what JESUS has repeatedly challenged and instructed HIS followers was to give to the poor. The rich young man wanted to follow JESUS so badly, but JESUS told him to dispose everything he had to the poor. JESUS has given the question and answer of HIS last examination at the judgment seat. " Whatever you have done to the least of my brethren have all done unto me".
The primary responsibility of the Church is to proclaim the good news
(gospel) and to take care of the needy and helpless people of the society as JESUS did in HIS brief ministry on earth.

It is gratifying to observe that Our Bishop A.P. D'Souza made time to be present at St. Antony's Homes to wish the residents and encourage them.

St. Antony's Homes are very well known not only to people in India but also to people all over the world.

Every Tuesday Novenas are conducted at Milagris Church and people from Mangalore have great devotion to St. Antony and he is termed a SAINT OF THE IMPOSSIBLES. Indeed this saint worked miracles during his life time in Padua and naturally people go over there to kiss his relic.

During these novenas in Mangalore hundreds of people present their petitions and there is a long list of THANKSGIVINGS.

St. Antony worked many miracles during his lifetime even raising the dead, curing the incurables. It is faith in this great saint that prompts people to attend the novenas in Milagris in hundreds.

Rev. Monsignor Denis Moras Prabhu (Director) ably assisted by the administrator Rev. Francis D'Souza and Assistant Director Father Crasta share the responsibilities well trying to bring joy in the hearts of all the poor residents of The Ashram.

St. Antony's is well known not only in Mangalore but several parts of the world.

It is not out place to mentions that Rev. Monsignor Fred Pereira during his tenure as The Vicar General and later on as The Director of The Ashram developed a Home for the senior father in the campus. As fate would haveit Monsignor Fred. spent his last days at this Home.

It is commendable that The three Fathers at St. Antony's serve the ASHRAM well trying to understand and help the residents.

I would like the readers of Daijiworld to come forward to help this home in whatever way they can.

Kudos to Our Bishop, Monsignor Denis, Father Francis and Father George on the excellent service they are trying to provide these poor people.

I am always pleased to learn how the diocese of Mangalore look after the poor in the diocese and helps them.
40 poor students will receive scholarships and about 1000 poor families will be provided with clothing and other basic needs.
To see the needy and the poorest of the poor is one of the most important duties of the Church especially there is no social welfare system in India like in western countries.
Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza celebrated Christmas with the inmates of St Anthony Homes for the Poor and he addressed them and said:”"Every year I come to celebrate Christmas with you. Jesus never lived in a palace but he chose to live in a small cowshed. Do not be sad but follow the path of Jesus."

Christmas is a special season, a time of joy and happiness, a time to share with the poor and to treat them with dignity and respect and helping them.

But we must not forget the deep meaning of Christmas. Christmas shall be a time to meditate and to have time for the family and even to get rid of bad habits and choosing a healthy lifestyle.
Christmas is a time even here in Oldenburg/Germany, where the Churches are full. Religious services are very solemn, one can realise something special happens.
There is joy, happiness, harmony and peace in the air.

Here from Oldenburg I would like to wish all readers of Daijiworld a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

    Best regards
