Mangalore, Jan 5: Fire broke out in the first floor of Kasturba Medical College hospital at Jyothi here in the wee hours of Saturday January 5.

The fire engulfed the microbiology lab located on the first floor of the building, at around 2.50 am.

A short circuit in the air-conditioner is said to have sparked off the fire. The fire then spread to another machine that was nearby.

Sources said that the microbiology lab was engulfed in smoke, though the fire did not spread much.

Two fire engines were rushed to the spot. The fire was brought under control after a while.

The extent of damage is yet to be ascertained.

This building was designed for a hotel not for a hospital, They have located the OT on the Top floor and ICU on the 10th floor, How the hell will they evacuate the patients from those top floors when they dont have a ramp, obviously you cannot use the lift in the event of fire. Thank God everyone is safe.
Its time to take some immediate steps to shift the hospital!!!!
Yes Mr Sajith, your point is also very much, it's high time the Hospital Management look into practical issues you have raised. They need to re-arrange these sections to 1st or second floor if that's feasible to mitigate the effects in the event of any emergency in future.

When its difficult to find a cause for the fire, people first say "SHORT CIRCUIT".

Wonder how they arrive at this conclusion even before the investigations are complete.

Its common nowadays at workplace , at home & in public place ,people just buy extension cord & then keep on adding connection between extension cord to extension cord. Every multipoint. is plugged with so many electrical & electronic equipment’s without knowing the load capacity .Every hone has so many gadgets and every home you will find not less than 25 equipment requiring electrical source.
We never think of safety in home . I suggest when you have more supply source required get it done by professional electrician so that No short circuit or overload occur . Also spend 10 min & do safety check at your home / workplace. Some case circuit breaker do helps but some time No .
Suggest buy good quality plugs /. Extension cord. The Chinese cheap plugs & extension cord are the
    Dangerous to use.

This is an Eye opener to all the offices & workstations that are busy using the Electrical operated equipments on 24x7 basis in particular. We have to stress the need for a real time basis planned maintenance of those equipments which are electrically operated, so as to prevent fire hazards in particular that may cause huge losses. Still here it is to be appreciated for the Management's good working practices that are already in place which has resulted in only minor extent of damages in this fire mishap.
