Sports Fixtures in UK Postponed Due to Bad Weather

London, Jan 19 (IANS): Snow and freezing conditions have led to the postponement of this weekend's sporting schedule with football and racing fixtures.

Saturday's Premier League match between West Brom and Aston Villa is also under threat, but Albion has announced that they are making "concerted efforts" to get their pitch ready for the kick-off, reports Xinhua.

Football League matches at Accrington, Barnet, Bristol Rovers, Bury, Crawley, Crewe, Hartlepool, Oxford, Port Vale, Rochdale, Scunthorpe, Southend, Torquay and Yeovil have all been postponed.

Big race meetings at Ascot and Haydock Saturday have also been called off.

Heavy snow is forecast for large parts of the UK with the Met Office issuing several weather warnings.

The snow is expected to be heaviest in south east Wales, with most of England, Wales, and southern and eastern Scotland expected to be affected in some way.
