Drew Barrymore wants to be better mum

Los Angeles, Jan 21 (IANS): Actress Drew Barrymore, who had a turbulent childhood, wants to be hands on mother and a permanent support system for her daughter.

Barrymore, who is married to Will Kopelman, gave birth to their first child, daughter Olive three months ago.

Talking on "Oprah's Next Chapter", she said: "I will be there at 3 p.m. in the school line waiting to pick her up, that's first and foremost," reports femalefirst.co.uk.

In the emotional interview, the 37-year-old actress explained that broken promises are what upset her most growing up, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

"I think that's as a kid what I craved the most, was just believing that was going to be there. Being there in that school line. I think the world offers so many wonderful varieties of obstacles but that shouldn't be one for kids, is the worry that my parent won't be there," she said.

The actress always wants to be honest with her daughter. She says she has already planned what to tell her about her own wild youth, during which she did drugs, got divorced twice and also admitted she was bisexual.

"I will absolutely instil in her that you cannot be ashamed of the journey that it took, you know, to get where you are if you are proud of yourself.

"But I will also try to instil on her that I did not have guidance and that is why I lived my life that way. And although I am proud of it and I don't want to spend the rest of my life regretting it, there is no option for her to take that path because she has guidance," she said.
