Mangalore, Mar 5: In a case that highlighted the consequences of traffic violation, a youth was killed on the spot when a vehicle approaching from the wrong side rammed into his bike and sped away without stopping.

The accident occured on the night of Monday March 4 near Yeyyadi.

The deceased has been identified as Ritesh Dandakeri (26), a resident of Dandakeri in Yeyyadi. He was the son of the late Narayana Kotian and Shalini.

Ritesh was on his way home when the accident occured. It is said that as he approched Yeyyadi, a Mahindra vehicle, to avoid taking a U-turn around the divider, drove on the wrong side and hit Ritesh's bike head-on.

The impact of the accident was such that Ritesh was killed on the spot and his bike was smashed. The Mahindra vehicle, which eyewitnesses said was a pick-up, sped way before anyone could stop it

As Ritesh was a resident of the area, a large crowd including relatives, friends and the public gathered at the spot.

Kadri traffic police led by inspector Nagaraj arrived and along with the locals, conducted a search for the vehicle. Police stations across the city were also alerted, but it could not be located.

Kadri traffic police have registered a case. Search for the Mahindra vehicle and its owner is on.

In Mangalore Trucks/Bus Drivers have no fear of Traffic Policemen, If they caught by policemen then they will pay Rs.200-500 to settle the issue. This is our badluck that our policemen are not honest towards their work indirectly they are deshdrohis.
To avoid accidents more speed breakers / signals need to be implement and Radar system should be implemented to stop over speed.

If you look at the auto stands outside Unity Health Complex, Falnir & also near Kadri Market, they are on the wrong side of the road. What about the traffic cutting in from Falnit to Jyothi circle, near KMC. That should be a one way. Here they cut the traffic going to Hampankatta, anywhich way they can. Make it a one way with only a left turn going down. The R. T. O. is the one creating the confusion. Our circles are anything but circles, more like obstructions. Why are there openings in the dividers on the roads. Make proper circles so that traffic can make proper turns.

Yes, the police or the department responsible for traffic management must take a call on the traffic management at the end of Kottara chowki flyover towards panambur. Its causing more problem than it did earlier. The confusion has sifted. The buses stop and start at thier own vims and fancies.Just imagine they try to over take in that small service road !!!It is at present one of the most dangerous junction. The buses are diverted to the service road and as known they care a damn to the small vehicles or the pedestrians. We also have the people blaming that the service road is for the service of Highway and not to the residents of the area and there seem to be no regulations whatsoever. it so difficult to enter the highway from the roads leading to the residential areas.Every single day we hear and see mishaps and lives lost. Why aren`t we waking up to do something. With each govt dept blaming the other. The whole flyover at Kottara chowki is a faulty structure added to no rules followed. The buses and lorries are a big threat to lives in this region.

Maybe if the rider had locked his helmet he would have been alive?
Yeah even driving on the wrong side of the road is not acceptable. but keeping some basic safety tips in mind. locking the helmet is very important.

I have witnessed several motorists in our Mangalroe city, to save a few meters drive to take a U-turn and join the right track, they use the wrong side and drive opposite to the original traffic flow. This is indeed hazardous, not only he risks his life, it endangers others' life too.

This can be curbed if traffic police impose sever penalities on wrong entry motorists, preferably 2 days incarceration apart from heavy fine.

Vehicles moving on the wrong side of the road is nothing new to mangalore. Cops stationed at junctions look the other way during such vehicular movements.
One famous spot is in front of Abarana jewelery shop & Kanara Club in kadri.
The only way to avoid such accidents is to "spot fine" vehicles that drive on the wrong side of the road to avoid a small detour.

May his soul rest in peace...Even Mlore to BC Road Highway also brings the same scenario...Just to avoid U-turn which is hardly a KM away, Mainly Toppers & Auto's comes in wrong side on regular basis...This is the high-time for traffic dept to take an action against those reluctant to follow the traffic rule....

Good God!! How often we see vehicles of all types taking a quick jaunt on the wrong side of the roads, particularly in busy places. No one thinks anything of it and the Police don't take enough action to prevent this or punish the wrong doer. Public must protest when this is seen. This can be highly dangerous for all road users particularly children and the old. Thanks! -ijss.
