Kasargod: Thousands flock to annual Enmakaje Nemotsava

Kasargod, Mar 5: As part of the five-day religious festivities at the Enmakaje Beedina Mane near Perla here, the annual 'Nemotsava' of the traditional Pilichamundi Raktheshwari and Parivara Daivas at the Enmakaje Taravad house here from Friday March 1 to Tuesday March 5.

Throngs of devotees participated in the 5-day Nemotsava with complete faith and devotion.

The event also comprised 'Natya Sammohanam' by Balakrishna Manjeshwar on March 1, flute concert led by Mysore Chandan Kumar and bhajan recitals.

The Pilichamundi Daiva Nema was performed on March 4, followed by 'Sathyadevatha Korathi Guliga Nemothsava' in the evening. Raktheshwari Daiva Nema was performed on Tuesday March 5 morning.

Enmakaje house has been famous for its ‘Bhoota Kola' (spirit worship), with a history dating back to over 450 years. Among the nine Bhootas worshipped by the family are the head Bhoota (Rajan) or Pilichamundi, followed by Gulige, Sathyadevatha, Korathi, Posa Bhoota, Chalena Bhoota, and Rakhtheswari Bhoota.

In 2004, the temple was reconstructed after a fire had destroyed its sacrosanct edifice in 1994. Since then, 'Nemotsava' ceremony has been performed every year in the first week of March. The present 'yejamane' (family head) is Enmakaje Vishwanath Rai who represents the entire clan at all functions and religious ceremonies. During the course of the five-day event, meals and refreshments are served to the guests and locals.

The Nemotsava was attended by a large number of villagers and people from far-flung places.
